Position Details

Position Duties and Responsibilities

Responsible for properly and efficiently filling all daily requisitions through the
evaluation of suppliers, negotiation of contracts, and review of quality of products. Order, receive, maintain and distribute supplies and maintain safety and sanitation in student kitchens and storeroom. Primary focus is on insuring the proper quality and specification of all issued product. Must be productive and efficient, ensure all requisitions are properly entered into the food ordering system, and assist with the efficient operation of kitchen facilities and equipment of the department. Responsible for all kitchens and bakeshops, large and small equipment, inventory, distribution, and maintenance. This position will assist in the assurance that teaching kitchens, bakeshops, and the Dining Services Department operates in compliance to all MO and Federal Safety policies and codes. The position actively works with faculty, facilities, and administration to resolve kitchen facility and equipment issues.

•Supports processes and systems to efficiently manage inventory, order, stage, distribute, return, clean, and maintenance of all equipment and materials.
•Facilitates equipment inventory for all kitchens and bakeshops including, but not limited to, cost control, proper storage, and care.
•Communicates to maintenance/facilities department to ensure proper use, care, and preventative maintenance schedules for all equipment in educational kitchens, bakeshops, dining rooms, and classrooms.
•Facilitates distribution of food, beverage, small ware, and chemical products to
internal customers. Guides proper coordination of installation and startup of equipment.
•Acts as liaison between facilities department and education to problem solve
recurrent or on- going issues.
•Assists in the coordination of the removal and replacement of old equipment removed from kitchens.
•Participates in the planning and budgeting of capital expenditures for education.
•Functions as the Department of Health liaison for all inspections, food incident reports, and all other related matters in the absence of faculty.
•Supports and conducts regular inspections/audits for the purpose of maintaining
appearance, quality and safety, including maintaining Safety Data Sheet materials.
•Demonstrates exemplary customer service skills.
•Assists in high volume and high profile catering events for the department when required.
•Assists with maintaining inventory controls, including electronically recording, tracking, and counting physical inventory.
•Monitors and maintains warehouse and work area organization to keep department
operations running smoothly.
•Any and all other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

AAS in Culinary Arts or related field.

Two (2) to five (5) years previous experience in the Food Service/Hospitality Industry with a minimum of one (1) to two (2) years of kitchen equipment procurement.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience with large and small kitchen equipment preferred.

Solid understanding of Mo health and
Fire Code as it relates to kitchen, bakeshops, dining rooms and classrooms.

Working knowledge of cooking methods and equipment used.

Some knowledge of front of house operations preferred.

Experience working with St. Louis City/and or County Department of Health licenses or certifications.

ServSafe Manager certification.

Certified Culinary Administrator (CCA) certification

Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.

Ability to be adaptable, dependable and handle multiple priorities simultaneously.

Must be able to demonstrate in the moment problem solving skills.

Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills.

Must demonstrate a high level of service responsiveness to internal and external customers.

Detail oriented and thorough.
